Rockford Files - Vintage Classic Old LAX Photos Images and Pictures

We happened to watch a couple episodes of the 1970's TV show, "Rockford Files."

Some screenshots  ...

Jim Rockford flew to Seattle. Departing LAX 25L on a Douglas DC-8 w/ full smoke ...

Note high altitude circuit in the background ...

That's the old National livery on the quad jet  ...

For the cruise segment, editors chose to use the 747 prototype ...

Landing Seattle on American ...

Obviously TWA terminal 3 at LAX ...

At least one satellite still has those same drinking fountains ...

Flight Insurance machine ...

Note schoolkids picture on left.

Sharon Gless and James Garner.

Gless eventually became "Cagney" on "Cagney and Lacey;" a show we never watched. Her father was a big-time Hollywood lawyer who represented Howard Hughes.

The famous red line ...

Rockford chased bad guy to the TWA hangar and shot him in a Tri-Star ...

Beautiful United 747 Classic landing ...

Just one parking structure ...

Nice United 727 and DC-8 action at T6. Plus Continental 707 Golden Jets at T5 ...

Vintage Classic Old LAX Construction Photos Images and Pictures

We saw something yesterday about how Delta is spending $229,000,000 to upgrade Terminal 5 at LAX. To you and me, that's the "Western" terminal. The news item made us think back to the old days ...

Delta coined the slogan, "Take 5 at LAX" when the T5 rennovations were completed in 1988.

We have more pictures like this in the vault, and will share them someday.

BTW if some of these look familiar, it's because they once appeared at the incredible Totally Jacked Up Aircraft Photos which is the blog that inspired the creation of Airplane Life . Small world, isn't it?

G-WJAN Boeing 757-200 Thomas Cook arriving OGG Kahului Maui

We saw G-WJAN the other day. Good to see it flying again !

Back in '98 the plane had "ground contact on landing."

Counterintuitively, that's actually not supposed to happen.

See the damage HERE .

USAF Maui Space Surveillance System (MSSS)

The big silver thing is the Advanced Electro Optical System (AEOS) also known as the big silver thing.

It's the largest telescope in the DOD.

They say it can track a basketball that's 20,000 miles away.

We didn't know there were basketballs in outer space, but feel safer in case there are.

Costco Whale Meat

We were surprised to see they are now selling whale meat at Costco. We tried a free sample. It sorta tastes like tuna, just a little more "blubbery."

Kansas State Wildcats Crash and Burn

We had the Wildcats in a contest. Today they were ELIMINATED IN THE FIRST ROUND, so we don't care about college basketball anymore.

The good news is, we came across this nice Grumman F-4F Wildcat photo. Special thanks to Glenn at Warbirdz !

Wolfman Jack Autograph 1971 LAX

We saw Wolfman Jack at LAX in 1971.

He announced on the radio that he would be there to "Meet the Tempations," when they arrived at LAX.

But The Tempations walked right past him as if he never existed. I think he was mad.

United had a relatively simple route map in those days.

Congratulations to our contest winner, AA278 !

UFO Departing LAX - N218UA United 777-200 "Star Alliance"

Obvoiusly a spacecraft. Photo by our Long Beach Bureau Chief. Don't trust anyone, as they could be Alien Insurgents. Airplane Life is believed to be the last website on the internet that is staffed entirely by Humans.

Airport Police

These photos DO NOT show a vehicle used by the security guards who hassle aviation photographers at an airport near here. In fact, these pictures were taken a long time ago someplace far away. By someone else.

We personally have a great working relationship with our guys, and think they deserve a big pay raise!

Lockheed Martin Skunk Works Hot Dog

From the kitchens at Plant 42 in Palmdale comes this "X-Dog."

Toasted cracked wheat bun with mayo. Pickles. Two separate grilled dogs sliced in half lengthwise - one half is a Whole Foods organic, the other half is a Whole Foods Bratwurst. RoTel Queso sauce. Dijon mustard.

Topped with homemade "KFC clone" buttermilk style cole slaw kicked up with green onions, smoked paprika, and bacon.

And some more bacon.

But we know what you're thinking. It should have an onion ring on top. That's the military version.

World's First Fully Telepathic Blog Post N840AL

Our posts will soon appear directly in your subconsience. No need for a computer or smart phone!

In laymans terms what we are doing is called "quantum synthetic extraoperative telepathic subspace electrocorticography with decohereant somatosensory hadronic resectioning integration." But it's a little more technical than that.

I wonder if we need some kind of FCC transmitter license for this thing.

Let us know if you saw this plane in your head before reading this post.

Yosemite El Capitan & Half Dome

We got these pictures from Captain Jivehead. He was on a layover at KSMF and went over to Yose.

We have many fond memories of visits to Yosemite. Camp 14 ... the firefall ...

Getting back to the pictures .... a guy named John Bachar once climed both of these faces free-style on the same day in 14 hours. And we knew John.
