Steve Jobs and Jony Ive Private Jet Gulfstream N2N, N586GV - Full Story

Airplane Life will now clarify any confusion regarding Steve Jobs private jet, and how it relates to Jony Ive. This is Steves plane, registration number N2N:

According to the 2000 Apple annual report, the aircraft shown above (construction number 586) was given to Steve Jobs as a "bonus." It is a 1999 Model GV.

After his death Jobs' widow, Laurene Powell Jobs, sold the aircraft to Sir Jony Ive. Ive is the Senior Vice President of Design at Apple. Ive re-registerd the plane as N586GV. Using the construction number and aircraft type to formulate the new registration number is consistent with Ive's thought process. Notice the similarity:

Since their fleet of aircraft was reduced by one, Apple Inc. decided to buy another plane. They chose a top of the line Model GVI, and registered it as N2N. One could surmise that they held that registration number all along, or managed to procure it. The GVI is a 2013 model, with construction number 6053. Fastests civilian jet you can buy. Notice it has more windows than the earlier N2N GV.

We thank Russell Hill for his pictures of both iterations of N2N, and Andrew W. Sieber for his picture of N586GV. We published this post using a late 2009 27" iMac.

Plane Spotting In-N-Out Burger LAX

We were surprised to see an SR-72 doing a flyby on 24R. Must be sort of rare. Probably on a mission from Edwards AFB.

Spirit of Los Gatos Dreamliner

We got a text message from our Galveston reporter yesterday. He let us know that he made contact with an Airplane Life fanatic. This sort of thing happens more often than you would think. His message reminded us of a picture we took a couple of years ago.

SV was cleared to line up 24 from C1.

That's when their mains gort stuck in the mud. Notice the strange intersection at C1/24.

It took the Tower a while to figure it out.

SV informed Tower they needed a tug.

Tower said, "Roger, line up runway 24."

SV informed Tower they needed a tug.

Tower said, "Roger, hold short runway 24."

So they did until they got a tug.

Magic Johnson's Private Jet N32MJ

His number was "32" on the Lakers, so there's an interesting coincidence.

We have mixed feelings about the hush kit. It adds sort of a "techno" look to the plane, but the installation lacks symmetry.

And why make it quieter anyway? Wouldn't most reasonable people want it louder?

Plane Spotting at PDX

That parking lot over there used to be a great place to park your car and spot planes.

But in a sterling example of bureaucratic overreach, they closed the parking lot. So now you just park ouside and step over the barricade. You arrive at the same place, and the security level stays exactly the same as it was.

This seems to be a movie about a breezy day on the cargo apron.

If the G200 isn't a Gulfstream, the G150 is even less of one.

Aerial Banners North Pilot Arrested

This really happened. Politically motivated Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell requests citizens to call EMERGENCY 911 if they see a PA-25 towing a banner. Seems like that might choke up the phone lines, and it would be tragic if someone was having a heart attack and couldn't get through.

The Pawnee pilot was arrested on Monday and later released on $100 bail.

This will evolve into an interesting legal case. We predict appeals to higher courts.

We've been sent these questions from our correspondents around the world :

1) Would you ever call the 911 EMERGENCY line and report a Piper flying overhead if all it was doing was towing an American Flag ?

2) Are the City of Honolulu's boundaries only on ground level, or do they extend vertically into outer space ?

3) Should a responsible citizen call 911 EMERGENCY if they see this billboard ?
