British Airways Flight 206

Back on Friday the 13th, a 747-400 operating as flight BA206 departed Miami enroute to Heathrow.

Several hours into the flight, the plane was in cruise at FL350. It was 3AM; and most passengers were sleeping.

A prerecorded message suddenly errupted from the PA system:

"THIS IS AN EMERGENCY ANNOUNCEMENT. WE MAY SHORTLY NEED TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY LANDING ON WATER."

Then it played again ....

"THIS IS AN EMERGENCY ANNOUNCEMENT. WE MAY SHORTLY NEED TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY LANDING ON WATER."

A little while later, the cockpit crew told the passengers the message was played by mistake.

Passengers were also given a printed letter of apology as they deplaned in London.

Happy Birthday Bob Hoover !

Tomorrow, 1/24/12, will be Bob Hoover's 90th birthday.

We send our best wishes to Bob, the GREATEST PILOT OF ALL TIME, and a REAL AMERICAN HERO.

We were lucky enough to shake his hand back in the 80's.

Picture below was at an airshow in 2000. His Shrike is now in the Smithsonian, parked next to a Concorde.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BOB !

A Collection of Random Photos

One of our viewers recently commented that, "You guys have too many airplane pictures." Fair enough. We respect the opinion of all of our readers, even those who are idiots. So here are a few images that we randomly selected from the vault...

Thomas Cook G-WJAN 757

We noticed this 757-21K (c/n 28674, l/n 746) today. It seems this one had an "incident" while landing back on 01 January, 1998. Interesting reading. Google the tail number and you'll find a narrative ...

TWA 747-238B N307TW

That's the wing of a Saudia 747-368 in 1996. We're pulling into Shannon before dawn for refuelling enroute to JFK.

What's interesting is the all-white TWA. At the time, I figured they had added this one to the fleet to replace the one that went down as TWA 800 earlier in the year.

VH-LUL Falcon 900C

We saw this one today, and noticed it had all of the passenger windows closed. Images of it on Airliners and JetPhotos also show it with most windows closed. Interesting, isn't it?
