Steve Jobs and Jony Ive Private Jet Gulfstream N2N, N586GV - Full Story

Airplane Life will now clarify any confusion regarding Steve Jobs private jet, and how it relates to Jony Ive. This is Steves plane, registration number N2N:

According to the 2000 Apple annual report, the aircraft shown above (construction number 586) was given to Steve Jobs as a "bonus." It is a 1999 Model GV.

After his death Jobs' widow, Laurene Powell Jobs, sold the aircraft to Sir Jony Ive. Ive is the Senior Vice President of Design at Apple. Ive re-registerd the plane as N586GV. Using the construction number and aircraft type to formulate the new registration number is consistent with Ive's thought process. Notice the similarity:

Since their fleet of aircraft was reduced by one, Apple Inc. decided to buy another plane. They chose a top of the line Model GVI, and registered it as N2N. One could surmise that they held that registration number all along, or managed to procure it. The GVI is a 2013 model, with construction number 6053. Fastests civilian jet you can buy. Notice it has more windows than the earlier N2N GV.

We thank Russell Hill for his pictures of both iterations of N2N, and Andrew W. Sieber for his picture of N586GV. We published this post using a late 2009 27" iMac.

  1. Now, if everyone could be like Steve Jobs and received planes as a "bonus" for a job well done! Steve's plane looks great, doesn't it? But while both aircraft may look the same, the newer plane had more windows, and presumably is better overall. Anyway, Apple sure knows how to keep their management happy. Thanks for sharing!
