Those were the days when you could catch a widebody on what they now call 'thin' routes. I remember flying on a DC10 from LAX to SAN, though that was technically a 'tag leg'. Also, a 747 ORD-LAX in 1972! Today, some regional jet routes are almost as long...I'm getting old.
