Ouch! Don't mess with NY controllers! You have to know how to work them. Twice, I was put into holding (arrival) and from our viewpoint, couldn't understand why. I finally said "one more circle and we'll need to divert to SWF". A clearance to LGA magically appeared. Glad I'm retired...
